 Slot Machines – All You Need to Know

It is not entirely clear when slot machines were first invented as many similar machines appeared around the same time. Some claim that a company from New York called Sittman and Pitt created the first machine in 1891. The game featured 5 drums and 50 playing cards and was popular in bars where it would cost a nickel to play. Players would win payouts by forming poker hands on the reels, but to increase the house edge two cards were removed from the machine, the 10 spades and the jack of hearts. The machine itself wouldn’t pay out, so players would collect their winnings at the bar, normally in the form of free drinks and cigars.

Another claim to the first slot machine is Charles Augustus Fey, who created a machine at some point between 1887 and 1895. His version was capable of paying out winnings but it required making the machines simpler. He did this by replacing the five drums with three reels. Furthermore, instead of playing cards, he used five symbols, hearts, diamonds, spades, horseshoes and a liberty bell. The top payout was won by landing three bell symbols, so the machine was named the Liberty Bell. It was a great success and as Fey did not patent it, many other manufacturers copied it.

At the start of the 20th century, slot machines were banned in America. This led to fruit machines, which used fruit symbols and paid out chewing gum and sweets of a matching flavour. Soon, a machine produced by Herbert Mills, the Operator Bell was found in in numerous shops and tobacconists around the country. It introduced the BAR symbol that was based upon the logo of the Bell-Fruit company.

Even once slot machines were no longer banned, the machines remained very similar for a long time. Players would pull a level to start the reels and would have to match symbols to win a payout. The first fully electronic machine didn’t appear until 1964 when Bally released Money Honey. Despite having electronic reels, the game still used a level in order to make it familiar to players. The machine could make automatic payouts of up to 500 coins and it was a huge success.

The Las Vegas based company Fortune Coin developed the first true video slot in 1976. It used a modified 19-inch Sony television for its display and it was first available in the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel. After a few modifications, the Nevada State Gaming Commission approved the machine and it became hugely popular on the Las Vegas Stip. IGT then acquired Fortune Coin in 1978.

The technology behind video slot machines continued to develop and the next major milestone came in 1996 when WMS Industries Inc. released Reel ‘Em. It was the first video slot to feature a second screen bonus game. The bonus game gave players more opportunities to win, which unsurprisingly made the game extremely popular with players. Around this time, slots were making about 70% of a typical casino’s income and would also take up about 70% of the available floor space.

The first online slots came very soon after, and initially they were very closely modelled on their physical world counterparts. Paylines are simply paths that can be traced through the reels starting at the first and ending at the last. Baccarat – Unlocking the Mystique

There was a time when only high rollers prepared to place large bets were able to play Baccarat. Luckily, those days are long gone and today everyone is free to enjoy the game, no matter his or her budget. However, there is still a certain mystery surrounding the game, which may put some players off trying this exciting casino game.

Baccarat is actually very simple. All you are doing is betting on which of two positions, the Player or Banker, will have a hand value closer to 9 at the end of the round. This means that there are just three bets, Player, Banker and Tie, and three possible outcomes.

When players have placed their bets, the dealer deals two cards to each position and the initial hand value is determined. In Baccarat, the cards 2 through 10 are worth their face value, the picture cards are worth 10 and Aces are worth 1. If the sum of the two cards is larger than 10 (e.g. 6 and 8, which is 14), then 10 is removed from the total (so 6 and 8 are worth 4).

There are then a few situations in which a third card may be dealt to one or both hands. If a hand is worth 8 or 9 it is called a natural and will not receive any more cards. The Player position will receive a third card if it is worth 5 or less. If the Player does not receive a third card, then the Banker will if it is worth 5 or less, but not if it is worth 6 or more.

If the player has received a third card then:

• If the Banker is worth 2 or less it receives a third card.
• If the Banker is worth 3 it receives a card if the Player’s third card was not 8.
• If the Banker is worth 4 it receives a card if the Player’s third card was 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7.
• If the Banker is worth 5 it receives a card if the Player’s third card was 4, 5, 6, or 7.
• If the Banker is worth 6 it receives a card if the Player’s third card was 6, or 7.
• If the Banker is worth 7 or more it stands.

After all cards have been dealt, players are paid out for any winning bets. That really is all there is to it, it takes no time to learn, and it can provide hours of fun.

Furthermore, there are not many Baccarat variants, so you do not need to worry about learning different sets of rules. The only variant you will find is No Commission Baccarat. In regular Baccarat, there is a 5% commission to pay on winning banker bets. In No Commission Baccarat, this commission is removed, so all bets pay even money, unless the Banker position is worth 6, in which case the payout is halved.

Very often, Baccarat games do offer a number of side bets, which makes the game even more exciting. The Player/Banker Pair side bets are very common and they pay out if one of the positions is dealt a pair, such as 5 of Diamonds and 5 of Hearts. The Either Pair side bet pays out if either position is dealt a pair. You may also find the Perfect Pair side bet, which pays out if one of the positions is dealt a pair of identical cards, such as two 7s of Clubs.

Vegas Blackjack – Play Like You’re on the Strip

As Blackjack players will know, there are many different version of the game with subtly different rules. Over the years, a number of different variants of the game have been developed in Las Vegas, and you can enjoy many of them here.

For instance, you could enjoy a game of Vegas Strip Blackjack. The game is played with four decks of cards. It features a dealer hole card, and the dealer will check for Blackjack when the up card is an Ace or a 10 card. Players are able to split hands three times to make four hands, but aces can only be split once and only one card is dealt to split aces. Furthermore, a split ace and a 10 counts as 21, not Blackjack. When it comes to Double Down, it is possible on any two cards, including after a split. Insurance is available, while surrender is not, and the dealer will stand on all 17s.

The other major version is Vegas Downtown Blackjack. This version is played with just two regular decks of cards. Once again, the dealer with check for Blackjack when the up card is an ace or a 10 card. The rules regarding splitting are the same as Vegas Strip Blackjack, and the same is true of Double Down. The big difference is that the dealer must hit on soft 17 in this game.

We also offer Vegas Single Deck Blackjack, which as the name suggests is played with just one deck of cards. The dealer will check for Blackjack as in the previous two versions, and players are able to take out insurance. However, in this version, Double Down is only available on hands that are hard 9, 10 and 11. Furthermore, Double Down is not available after a split and hands may only be split once.
